Lackawanna falls twice in Region Doubleheader

Randolph, NJ – The Lackawanna College softball team dropped both games of its Region XIX Division II doubleheader to County College of Morris. Lackawanna fell in the first game by a 5-1 score, before Morris outscored the Falcons 5-3 in the nightcap.

Barbara Verrastro suffered a loss in the opener, after hurling six innings and giving five runs, only two of which were earned.  She relinquished only seven hits and struck out four.

Lackawanna hitters were limited to five hits, two of which were contributed by Lauren Leppo. Leppo singled twice in three at bats. She also drove in the Falcons' only run. The other three hits were singles by Sierra Mulgrew, Kacey Orlowski and Brenda Reninga.

In game two, Kacey Orlowski was the losing pitcher. She worked six innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. Orlowski struck out four.

At the plate, Moriah Lynn and Marina Pegula both singled twice in four plate appearances, with Pegula scoring once and driving in another run. Barbara Verrastron contributed a double and RBI., whil Brenda Reninga, Sierra Mulgrew and Lauren Leppo added singles.

Lackawanna returns to play on Monday, when it hosts Northampton Community College in an EPAC doubleheader at Sherwood Park in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
