Myrtle Beach – The Lackawanna College softball team completed their spring trip to Myrtle Beach with a doubleheader sweep over Potomac State College of West Virginia. The Lady Falcons won the opener 12-7 and shut out Potomac 3-0 in the nightcap. The two wins give the Falcons a 7-1 win/loss record on their southern trip.
In the opener, Barbara Verrastro was credited with the win after giving up seven runs in seven innings on eleven hits. She struck out four. At the plate five Falcons had multi-hit games in the victory. Emily Duffy led the group with three singles and a double in five at bats. Moriah Lynn was the most productive, driving in five runs with a single, double and triple in five plate appearances. The other three multi-hit games were contributed by Kacey Orlowski with two doubles and an RBI; Lauren Leppo with a single, double and two RBIs; and, Verrastro with two singles and a run driven in. Sierra Mulgrew continued to add to her extra base hit totals with a double.
In the second game, Kacey Orlowski earned her second shutout win of the spring trip. She gave up no runs on four hits while striking out five. Again multiple Falcons contributed multi-hit performances in the win. Emily Duffy, Sierra Mulgrew, Barabara Verrastro and Orlowski all had two hits in three at bats. Orlowski had the team's only extra base hit a triple, while Marina Pegula, Mulgrew and Reninga each drove in a run.
Lackawanna's Saturday doubleheader at Cumberland County College has already been cancelled because of expected inclement weather.
