Lady Falcons Eliminated from Region XIX Tournament

Randolph NJ – The Lackawanna College softball team had their season come to an end in the Region XIX Division II Softball Tournament, as they lost their first two games of the double elimination tourney. In the morning game they fell to County College of Morris 4-2 in eight innings. In the afternoon contest they were outscored by Mercer County Community College, 6-1.

In the first game, Lackawanna scored in the bottom of the first on a Katie Yale RBI single to take a 1-0 lead that they held through three complete innings. In the top of the fourth, Morris tied the score with a solo run but relinquished the lead to the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth when Taylor Tilberry drove in a go ahead score. Unfortunately for the Lady Falcons that lead did not stand up, as Morris scored a run in the seventh to tie and two unanswered runs in the eighth to claim the victory.

Barb Verrastro suffered the loss, pitching all eight innings while giving up four runs on six hits. She struck out six. At the plate, Lackawanna recorded seven hits, with two Falcons having multi-hit games. Both Mikaela Browdy and Taylor Tilberry singled and doubled in four at bats. Jessica Bobersky contributed a double.

In the second game against Mercer, the Lady Vikings took a three run lead in the bottom of the first and added to that lead with two more runs in the fifth. The only run that Lackawanna put on the board came in the fifth when Browdy plated Barb Verrastro with an RBI double.

Katie Yale took the loss, going two innings while relinquishing three runs on six hits. Verrastro pitched the final four innings, surrendering two more runs, one of which was unearned, on four hits. Lackawanna's top batter was Tilberry, who had three singles in four plate appearances.

With today's two losses, Lackawanna ended the season with 24 wins and 14 losses. It claimed the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference with an 8-0 win/loss record, and finished their Region XIX DII regular season with a 7-3 record.
