Dunmore, PA – Tuesday afternoon, the Lackawanna softball team swept a conference doubleheader beating Valley Forge Military College by scores of 22-0 and 21-0. With the win, the Falcons bettered their Region XIX record to four wins and two losses and have them tied for third place with County College of Morris, a game and a half ahead of Rowan College at Burlington County. To qualify for the Region's DII tournament, a team has to finish no lower than fourth place.
In game one, Barb Verrastro was credited with the win in a run shortened contest, her tenth victory of the season. The Lady Falcons top hitters were Amanda Ogozaly with two singles, a triple, five runs scored and three driven in in five at bats; Jenai Plowden with two singles, a double, two runs and two RBIs in three official trips to the plate; and Brittney Mecca with three singles, three runs scored and two runs driven in in three trips to the plate. Also having multi hits were McKenzie Runco with a single and double, Mikaela Browdy with a single and triple and Verrastro with a base hit and double.
In game two, Katie Yale was Lackawanna's top performer by earning the win and having a perfect four for four day at the plate. Yale singled twice, doubled and tripled while driving in four and scoring once. Three other Falcons had at least two base hits in the contest. Jessica Bobersky singled and doubled, while Verrastro and Mecca singled twice.
Lackawanna next plays a road twin-bill on Thursday against Northampton Community College at their Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, campus. Game time for the first game is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
