Dunmore, PA – Saturday afternoon the Lackawanna College softball team split a Region XIX Division II doubleheader with Delaware Technical Community College, winning the opener 4-3 before falling in the night cap by a 6-3 score. The win was the first victory for the Falcons over Del Tech since the 2009 season.
In game one, the Falcons and Delaware Tech traded the lead three times before Lackawanna took the final lead in the sixth inning when Bethany Mickavicz scored on a Del Tech error.
Four Lady Falcons contributed to the victory with multi hit performances. Both Mikaela Browdy and Emily Duffy singled and doubled, while Jessica Bobersky and Mickavicz singled twice. Browdy combined her two hits with a run scored and an RBI.
Barb Verrastro got the win for Falcons allowing three runs over seven innings. It was her ninth win of the 2016 campaign. Verrastro struck out four, walked two and gave up nine hits.
In game two, Del Tech scored three runs in both the first and sixth innings. Although the Falcons rallied for one in the third and two more in the sixth, they could not overcome the Del Tech lead.
Losing pitcher was Katie Yale. She allowed six runs in seven innings, walked one and struck out one.
Leading hitters for the Falcons were Browdy and Yale. Browdy equaled her first game performance with another single and double, with a run scored; while Yale singled twice. In addition to Browdy, Kara Voyton and Duffy each had an extra base hit, both contributed a double.
Lackawanna continues play on Tuesday when they host Valley Forge Military College in a Region XIX DII twin-bill. Tuesday's two game set is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM and will be played at Sherwood Park in Dunmore.
