Blue Bell, PA – Thursday afternoon, the Lackawanna College softball team swept an Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference doubleheader, beating Montgomery County Community College 14-1 in the opener and 14-3 in game two.
In the opener, three Falcons had multi-hit games. Jessica Bobersky singled twice, scored once and drove in three runs in four trips to the plate; Katie Yale had a perfect two for two day with two singles and an RBI; and, Emily Duffy had two base hits in four plate appearances, while scoring twice and driving in four. Barb Verrastro had the Falcons only extra base hit, a two run double in the second.
Verrastro earned the win, giving up only one run on two hits in five innings of work. She also struck out thirteen. It was Verrastro's eight victory in eleven decisions this season.
In game two, Katie Yale was credited with the win. Yale completed five innings, yielding three runs on five hits, while striking out four. In addition to her pitching performance, she was Lackawanna's top hitter, singling three times in four at bats. She also scored twice and drove in a run.
Others having notable performances at the plate were Lauren Leppo and Amanda Ogozaly. Leppo singled, walked, doubled, scored once and drove in two runs in four plate appearances; while Ogozaly recorded two hits, reached first twice on base on balls, scored twice and drove in a run in her five trips to the plate.
Both games were shortened to five innings each by the implementation of the ten run rule.
Lackawanna's next game is Saturday, when they host Delaware Technical Community College in a key Region XIX Division II doubleheader. Saturday's twin-bill will be played at Sherwood Park in Dunmore and is scheduled to commence at 1:00PM
