Middletown, NY – Wednesday afternoon, the Lackawanna College Softball team split their doubleheader with Orange County Community College. The Falcons fell in the opener 13-0, before rebounding in the nightcap to beat the Colts 5-4 in extra innings.
In game one, the Lady Falcons were held hitless, as Katie Yale took the loss.
In the second game, Orange took an early 4-0 lead before they recorded an out in the second inning. The Falcons rallied in the fifth to tie the game on RBI singles by Lauren Leppo, Yale and Emily Duffy; and, a sacrifice fly by Kara Voyton. Lackawanna then took the lead in the top of the ninth when Jessica Bobersky drove in Bethany Mickavicz on a fielder's choice.
Winning pitcher for Lackawanna was Barb Verrastro. Coming in to relieve with no outs in the bottom of the second, she held the Colts scoreless for eight innings on three hits while striking out ten. Top batters for the Falcons were Yale, with two singles and an RBI in four plate appearances; and, Duffy, with three base hits and a run batted in in her four trips to the plate.
Lackawanna plays again tomorrow when they travel to Blue Bell, Pennsylvania to play in a doubleheader with Montgomery County Community College. Game one is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM.
