Lady Falcons sweep Doubleheader

Dunmore, PA – Wednesday afternoon, the Lackawanna College softball team swept Penn State – Worthington in a non-conference doubleheader, shutting out the Nittany Lions 10-0 in a six inning opener and then out scoring PSU 7-3 in the nightcap.

Game one was the Katie Yale show. Not only did she earn the win as the Falcons' hurler, she was also Lackawanna's top hitter. On the mound, Yale pitched five innings of shutout softball yielding only three hits while striking out three. At the plate, she was three for four with two doubles, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Another hitting performance worthy of note was Jessica Bobersky's two base hits, a run scored and RBI in three plate appearances. The Falcons' only other extra base hit was a double by Mikaela Browdy in the sixth inning.

In game two, Barb Verrastro earned her sixth win of the 2016 season. Verrastro went all seven innings yielding three runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits, while striking out seven. Four Lady Falcons led Lackawanna hitters with multi-hit games. Browdy led the group with a single, double and RBI in four plate appearances; she was followed by Bobersky with two singles, a run scored and an RBI in four at bats; Taylor Tilberry with two singles and a run in four trips to the plate; and Kelly Snyder with two singles in her two at bats. In addition to Browdy, both Laureen Leppo and Verrastro also had a two base hit.

Thursday, Lackawanna plays their third consecutive doubleheader in three days, as they host Orange County Community College at Sherwood Park in Dunmore. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
