Dunmore, PA – Tuesday afternoon, the Lackawanna College softball team opened their home schedule with a doubleheader split with Region XIX Division II rival, County College of Morris. The Lady Falcons took the opener by an 8-0 score before falling in the night cap by a 16-8 tally.
In the first game, Barb Verrastro claimed the win by hurling a five inning shutout, holding Morris to five hits, while striking out nine. With the victory, Verrastro bettered her win/loss record to 5-1. The Falcons top hitters were Taylor Tilberry, with a single, triple, a run scored and two RBIs in two official trips to the plate; Mikaela Browdy, with two singles, two runs and a run driven in in three at bats; and, Jessica Bobersky, with two singles and a run in three trips to the plate.
In the second game, Katie Yale suffered the loss leaving her with a season win/loss record of 4-3. At the plate five Lady Falcons had multi-hit games. Verrastro had a single and double in three at bats; Bobersky and Browdy both had two singles in four plate appearances; and, Lauren Leppo and Brittney Mecca each had two singles in three plate trips.
With the split, the Falcons now have a 9-6 win/loss record.
Lackawanna returns to the field tomorrow when they play Penn State – Worthington in a non-conference twin-bill on PSU's Dunmore Campus. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
