Lackawanna sweeps Road Doubleheader

Newton NJ – Thursday afternoon, the Lackawanna College softball team swept a road doubleheader at Sussex County Community College, beating Sussex 14-0 in the opener and 13-0 in the nightcap.

Katie Yale claimed the win in the opener with a one hit five inning shutout. The Lady Falcons leading hitters were Kara Voyton, who singled twice and doubled in three at bats, while scoring twice and driving in six runs; Jessica Bobersky, who singled three times in three plate appearances; Mikaela Browdy, who singled twice in four at bats; and Taylor Tilberry, who singled twice in two official times to the plate. Jenai Plowden doubled in her only trip to the plate.

In game two Barb Verrastro also shutout Sussex in a five inning contest on one hit. Of the fifteen putouts, Verrastro struckout eleven. Lackawanna's top batters were Plowden, with a double and two singles, two runs and four RBIs in four plate appearances; Voyton with two singles and two runs scored in four at bats; and Browdy with two singles, three runs and a run driven in.

Lackawanna will return to play next Tuesday when they host County College of Morris in a Region XIX Division II doubleheader. Tuesday's games are Lackawanna's home opener and is scheduled for a 3:30 PM start.
