Lackawanna Splits Wednesday Afternoon Contests

Myrtle Beach, SC – Wednesday afternoon the Lackawanna College softball team split their spring trip contests, beating Danville Area Community College 9-4, before falling to Rend Lake College 9-0.

In game one, the Falcons took an early 9 -1 lead through four innings before coasting to their fifth win of the 2016 campaign. The win went to Barb Verrastro, her third of the year. She gained the victory by hurling seven innings and holding Danville to four runs on eleven hits; with only three of those runs being earned. Verrastro also struck out four.

At the plate, six Lady Falcons recorded multi-hit games. Kara Voyton led the group with three singles in four at bats. She also scored twice and drove in two. Voyton was followed by Verrastro, who singled and doubled in four plate appearances; Lauren Leppo, who singled twice in four plate appearances; Jessica Bobersky, who had two base hits in five at bats; Mikaela Browdy, who had two singles and a team high three RBIs in four at bats; and, McKenzie Runco, who reached first twice on base hits in three trips to the plate.

In game two, the Lady Falcons were held hitless in the five inning contest. The loss went to Katie Yale, who threw three and a third innings giving up and seven runs, six of which were earned.

Lackawanna finishes their spring trip tomorrow when they play Pitt Community College at 9:30 AM and Henry Ford College at 3:30 PM.
