Dunmore, PA – The Lackawanna College softball team took both games of its Sunday doubleheader, beating Lehigh Carbon Community College 7-0 in the opener and 9-6 in the night cap.
In game one, Lackawanna used a two run first inning and the pitching of Cynthia Petrucci to propel the Lady Falcons to its 7-0 victory. Although they also scored one in the third and four more in the fourth, those runs proved to be unneeded, as Petrucci hurled a seven inning two hit shutout. She also K'd six in her second win of the year.
In the next contest, Lackawanna and LCCC played a back and forth game which finally went Lackawanna's way in the bottom of the sixth when they scored the final four runs of the game. The contest started with Lehigh Carbon scoring three in the top of the first, only to see Lackawanna bounce back with a run in the bottom of the first and two more in the third. Tied at three, LCCC scored three more in the top of the fourth. Again the Lady Falcons bounce back with two in the bottom of the fourth and the winning four runs in the sixth.
A tired Petrucci claimed her third victory of the season as she hurled seven innings while yielding six runs on eleven hits. Only four of those runs were earned. She also added six strikeouts which gave a total of twelve on the day.
