Scranton, PA – Playing in its third Region XIX Division I contest in its inaugural season, the Lackawanna College men's soccer team won its first Region game, beating Manor College by a 2-1 score. Trailing 1-0 at half-time, the Falcons rallied with their two goals in the second half; both within a 12 minute time frame.
Manor scored first when Eddy Rangle drove by Lackawanna's goalkeeper, Rob Kuzma, for the first score of game with 7:08 left in the first half. In the second half with 33:10 left, Ryan Euell beat the Manor goalkeeper off a dribble to score the program's first ever Region XIX goal; while Daniel Zuniga was credited with an assist on the goal. It didn't take long for Zuniga to make an impact on the outcome of the game, as he snaked by a fallen goalkeeper, only to be intentionally taken down in the box by a Manor defender. On the ensuing penalty kick, he slammed his kick into the net, with 24:56 left in the game, for what proved to be the winning goal.
Offensively Lackawanna had 14 shots on goal to Manor's 5. On defense Kuzma was credited with 4 saves in his second win of the season. His win/loss record is now 2-2.
Another historic fact about today's game is that the Falcons were the winner's in the first regular season home game that the Lackawanna has played.
On Saturday, the Falcons will return to the pitch when they host the Albright College JV team at Scranton Prep's Loyola Complex. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
