The Lackawanna College Golf Team begins their Spring Campaign with weeklong visit to Pinehurst

The Lackawanna College Men's Golf Team begins its 2017 Spring Season next week at Pinehurst, North Carolina. The team will once again open up with a scrimmage against NJCAA DIII National runner-up Sandhills Community College on Thursday, March 9th, at the Magnolia Course at Pine Wild Golf & Country Club. The team will then head north to Swan Point Yacht & Golf Club to take on the College of Southern Maryland in their season opener on Saturday, March 11th.

Head Coach Patrick Lloyd said "This is great trip for the team, and gives us an opportunity to work with them before we return to start our Region 19 schedule. "Lloyd added "It is tough to lose two All-Americans from last year's squad, but we have some great freshman talent, so I am looking forward to another strong Spring."

This year's squad is honorable mention in the top 10 of the Bushnell Golf World NJCAA DII coach's poll, after recording an Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference win/loss record of 15-6 this past Fall.

This year's Falcons golf team is comprised of 5 freshmen. Leading the way is William Bastings, of Christchurch, New Zealand. Coach Lloyd said of Bastings "He has an ability to hit it a long way, with that raw ability his potential is unlimited."

Other top golfers on the squad are Athen's Area High School's Zach Sitzman and PIAA State Qualifier from Forest City High School Dylan O'Dell. Rounding out the team are Elk Lake High School's Colton Tyler and James Hackett from Maine-Endwell High School (NY).

Coach Lloyd is back for his eleventh season with the Falcons golf team. Mike Bonavoglia a former NCAA DII & NCAA DIII standout returns as assistant coach.
