Scranton, PA – What was scheduled to be a non-conference contest that each team placed on their schedule to prepare for their respective Regional playoffs, turned into an epic triple overtime battle with the Lackawanna College men's basketball team running out of steam in the third overtime before losing to Sullivan County Community College 118-111.
Regulation ended with the score tied at 85-85 when Jesse Huff missed a last second three point attempt with time running out. The first overtime ended after Cartier Talford tied the score at 93-93 with 6 seconds left in the period and Sullivan was unable to get off a shot before the period ended. The second overtime ended as Markel Epps tied the game at 101 with a field goal on a drive to the basket with 44 seconds left in the period. There was no further scoring as Sullivan turned the ball over with 34 seconds left and Epps turned it over with 3 seconds. In the final overtime period when Quintin Ward hit a jump shot to draw the Falcons within two points of Sullivan at 113-111. However that would be the last Lackawanna score as Sullivan went 5-5 from the foul line.
Five Falcons had double digit scoring nights with Quintin Ward leading the group with 26. He was followed by Cartier Talford with 24, Mark Perry with 18, Markel Epps with 16 and Jesse Huff with 13. Perry was team leader in boards with 7, and Talford led in assists with 8.
High scorer for the NJCAA Division III eight ranked Sullivan was Marcus Glover with 45.
Lackawanna kicks off its playoff run at home next Friday as the Region XIX Division II 4th seed. They will host the 5th seed Orange County Community College at the Student Union on Friday with a 6:00 pm tip off.
