Falcons defeat Monroe College 21-7 to become Northeast Football Conference Champions

(SCRANTON, PA) – Saturday afternoon was Homecoming for Lackawanna College and they delivered a 21-7 win over the Monroe College Mustangs. This win helped the Falcons attain a 7-0 record and a Northeast Football Conference Championship.

The first quarter started out a tad slow, both teams had the ball twice but were forced to punt. The third drive of the day for Lackawanna College resulted in their first score. #36 Reggie Jean-Charles punched in the ball on a 2-yard rush. Falcons lead Mustangs 7-0. The second score came in the 2nd quarter after the Falcons received a punt, putting the ball on the Mustang's 49-yard line. #1 Darius Brown rushed 4 straight plays, 4-yards, 7 yards, 34 yards, and a 4-yard touchdown to give Lackawanna a 14-0 lead. The Falcons defense held tight in the first half, the score at halftime stayed 14-0.

The third drive of the 3rd quarter was the Mustangs time to strike. They took advantage of several penalties against Lackawanna (Pass Interference, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, and Roughing the Passer) which helped Monroe College keep marching the ball down the field. Jalen Brown rushed the ball for a 1-yard Mustang touchdown. Monroe College trims the lead to 14-7. Lackawanna would start the 4th quarter off with a touchdown to the Tight End #84 James Stanley. While running through the back of the end zone, QB #9 Shane McLaughlin threw the ball past coverage and hit Stanley right between the numbers. Falcons extend their lead to 21-7. The game ended with a resounding sack by Falcon's #46 Tarique Smith during Monroe College's last drive. Falcons win 21-7.

#6 Ranked Lackawanna College has improved their record to 7-0. After defeating ASA College 30-26 last week and defeating Monroe College 21-7 this week, the Falcons are the Northeast Football Conference Champions. They will look to continue their success and bid for the postseason next week when Lackawanna College visits Hocking College. The game will be played on Sunday October 21st, kickoff is at 1pm.
