Falcons Open Season Sunday with Trio of D-1 Commits

SCRANTON, Pa. – 8-31-2018 – It's a new football season at Lackawanna College and it begins this weekend, as the Lackawanna College Falcons travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to play ASA College (Miami) on Sunday September 2nd. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm as the Falcons look to continue last season's success. During the 2017 season, Lackawanna sported a 7-2 (1-1 Conference) record. ASA College (Miami) has already started their 2018 season with a 41-0 home win over Advance Prep Academy.

The new season isn't the only thing Falcon Fans can be excited about. Lackawanna will feature three Division 1 commits in their opening line up, Offensive Tackle Anthony Whigan (Penn State), Defensive Back JaQuan Brisker (Penn State), and Savion Williams (Tennessee)

Anthony Whigan is the number one ranked prospect for JUCO Offensive Lineman. Earlier this month, he verbally committed to Penn State University on his personal twitter account.

In reflecting on the importance of Lackawanna College to his decision to go to Penn State, Whigan stated,"I want to give a big thanks to the coaches and teachers here at Lackawanna College for giving me another chance. You people took my game to another level on and off the field".

On the defensive side of the ball is JaQuan Brisker, a nationally top ranked defensive back. Brisker, a native of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania was courted by several other Power 5 Conference teams but ultimately decided on Penn State and Head Coach James Franklin.

Sticking with defense, the number one ranked JUCO Defensive Tackle Savion Williams will be taking his talents to the University of Tennessee. Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt and his staff were a major reason he committed to the Volunteers.

"I feel like the coaches, they were really genuine and I really felt that they cared about me as a person as much as a football player. I had a great time there. They showed me a lot of love." - Williams

Lackawanna College Falcons will host their home opener on Saturday October 6th at 1pm against ASA College (New York). More information can be found at www.lackawannafalcons.com
