Scranton, PA – Saturday night, fans at the Lackawanna College – Nassau Community College game saw a contest where points were scored in almost every conceivable way. There were five rushing touchdowns, five passing TDs, a pick six by Lackawanna's London Cloud, three field goals, two safeties and a blocked extra point that was returned for points by Branyon Javier-Castillo. There was also a fumble returned for score and a score on a kick-off return, however those two scores were erased when it was determined that the runner was down before the fumble and the latter was called back because of a penalty. Despite all that action, what will be remembered about this game, was the combined running efforts of Jo-El Shaw and Eric Finney , who together ran for 238 yards and four touchdowns.
Shaw rushed for 168 yards on 28 carries, many of which were achieved breaking tackles, running with defenders on his back or just plain running over would be tacklers. There were only few occasions when Shaw was taken down by a solo defender. He also scored on runs of two and four yards, while his longest run was a 40 yard sprint. In addition to his efforts on the ground, Shaw also caught two passes for 45 yards, giving him a total of 213 all-purpose yards.
Finney rushed for 70 yards in nine attempts, scoring twice on runs of 14 and 23 yards. In the third quarter, he scored on a 13 yard run only to see it called it back because of a holding penalty. On the very next played he scooted for his 23 yard score. In addition, Finney returned four kick-offs for 59 yards for a total of 129 all-purpose yards.
Michael Dare led the Falcons in passing with 16 completions in 27 attempts for 231 yards; one of his completions was a 34 yard scoring pass to Rashied Mallete. Top receivers for Lackawanna were Navon Prince, who had six receptions for 65 yards and Kyren Best, who had three receptions for a team high 73 yards.
On defense, Lackawanna's top performers were London Cloud with six tackles, a pass break-up and a 35 yard interception return for a touchdown; Mark Chaney with five tackles and a sack; and, Juquan Brisker with four solo tackles, an assisted tackle and two pass breakups.
