Lackawanna claims Win in Battle of Undefeated

With both Lackawanna College and Monroe College entering their Saturday afternoon game with  identical 6-0 win/loss records, Lackawanna's fans were anticipating a well played football game. Probably the last thing they foresaw was a score on the second play of the game. However that's exactly   what they got, as Falcons' quarterback, David Pindell sprinted for an 84 yard touchdown. It would be the first of six TDs that Lackawanna would score on their way to a 45-33 win.

The Falcons scored three of their three touchdowns in the first quarter, when Zahneer Shuler scored on a 1 run  with 6:25 left in the period and Marcellias Sutton scored on an 11 yard run with 2:04 left in the  quarter. Sutton's score came after Monroe trimmed the score to 14-7.

In the second quarter with 7:55 left in the half, Monroe again scored to reduce the Lackawanna lead to 7 points. However, the Falcons answered that threat, when Raekwon Purdy hauled in a 32 yard scoring pass from Pindell, with 2:04 left till halftime, to give Lackawanna a 28-14 lead, a lead which they took into the halftime break.

In the third period, Jerrod Diggs took an end around 56 yards for a score, giving the Falcons a 35-14 lead with 11:32 left in the quarter, increasing the Falcon lead to 35-14

Monroe would score twice with 04:39 left in the third quarter and 12:39 left in fourth period. Again the Lackawanna lead was reduced to a mere 7 points until Shuler scored on a 1 yard plunge, his second of the day, to put the Falcons ahead 42-28 with 01:46 left in the game. Monroe scored with 11 seconds remaining, but it was too little to late, as Lackawanna claimed its sixth win of the year.

Pindell led the Falcons in rushing and passing. He rushed for 73 yards and a TD in 12 carries. As a passer, he completed 20 passes in 28 attempts for 307 yards and a touchdown. Jerrod Diggs was the leading receiver with 7 receptions for 89 yards.

Shane Schuback led the defense with 8 tackles, 2 sacks and 4 Tackles for Loss.

Lackawanna continues their season with a road game at Hocking College next Saturday. Saturday's game will be played at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
