Scranton, PA – For the first time during the 2016 season, the Lackawanna College football team found themselves trailing. In the first quarter of Saturday night's game against Hudson Valley Community College, Lackawanna scored on the second play of the game on a 60 yard pass from David Pindell to Navon Prince. With a successful point after touchdown by Erik Hill, the Falcons led 7-0 with 14:12 left in the period. Hudson Valley rebounded when their punt pinned Lackawanna on their own one yard line, which eventually led to the Vikings' first score when on the very first play after the punt, a Lackawanna snap sailed over Pindell's head and out of the end zone to give HVCC 2 points with 10:23 left in the quarter. Using a hurry up offense, Hudson Valley then took a 9-7 lead when they scored on a 3 yard pass and executed a successful PAT with 07:05 left in the quarter. That would remain the score when the first quarter wound to a conclusion. At that point in the game it appeared that Lackawanna had a battle on their hands. However, that was the last time the Vikings would see the end zone as the Falcons scored 41 unanswered points to claim a 48-9 victory.
Pindell led the way for the Falcons as he rushed 10 times for 129 yards and a 44 yard touchdown; while passing for 170 yards on 11 completions in 21 attempts. He threw three TD passes of 60, 17 and 7 yards.
Jo-el Shaw just missed joining Pindell in the 100 yard rushing club, when he ran for 98 yards in 7 attempts. He also scored on a 17 yard run.
Jerrod Diggs was Lackawanna's must effective receiver catching 5 passes for 81 yards, one of which went 17 yards for a score.
On defense, the Falcons were led by linebackers Mustafa Mitchell and Shane Schuback. Mitchell recorded 7 solo tackles and 1 assisted tackle, two of which were sacks that cost HVCC 6yards, along 2 tackles for losses of 11 yards. He forced 1 fumble and broke-up a pass. Schuback had 3 solo tackles and 3 assists, which included a sack and assisted sack and a TFL and assisted TFLs totaling 10yards.
