Football Falcons beat Valley Forge 55-21

Wayne, PA: Saturday afternoon, the Lackawanna College football team traveled to Wayne, Pennsylvania to play Valley Forge Military College. After the first quarter, no one would have believed this game would be an offensive slugfest as the teams changed goals with the score tied at 0-0. However over the next three quarters the opposing squads would put 76 total points on the scoreboard. with Lackawanna contributing the majority in their 55-21 victory over the Trojans.

In the second period, Jo-El Shaw, Lackawanna's freshman running back, got the scoring going with a 3 yard touchdown run. After the ensuing Eric Hill conversion the score was Lackawanna - 7-Valley Forge - 0 with 8:04 left in the quarter. Later in the same period, David Pindell hit Jerrod Diggs with a 17 yard scoring pass with 4:30 on the clock, After Hill booted another successful conversion the Falcon lead was increased to 14-0. The Falcons finished its scoring in the first half, when Brad Zaffram picked off a Valley Forge pass on the 41 and returned it to the Valley Forge 35 yard line. On the very next play, Pindell threw a 35 yard scoring toss to Navon Prince. A Hill point after touchdown was successful and the Falcons took a 21-0 lead with 2:10 left in the half, which was also the half-time score.

In the third quarter, Lackawanna received the kickoff and drove down the length of the field for its fourth touchdown of the day. The key play being a 55 yard touchdown pass from Pindell to Zahneer Schuler. With another Hill point after touchdown, the Falcons held a 28-0 lead with 12:45 left in the quarter. VFMC cut into that lead with a touchdown of their own with 11:40 left in the period. The Valley Forge score was the first touchdown on Lackawanna's defense during the 2016 season. With the score 28-7, the Falcons' offense again lengthened their lead when Pindell completed his fourth touchdown pass of the game hitting Mallory Claybourne with a 47 yard strike. When Hill missed his first conversion of the day, Lackawanna's lead was left at 34-7 with 9:35 left in the third period. The scoring continued in the quarter as Valley Forge scored with 7:20 left to cut the lead to 34-14. Again, the Lackawanna offense answered. This time with a 3 yard run by Shaw; his second rushing TD of the day. Hill made his fifth extra point to the increase the Falcons lead to 41-21 with 1:51 left in the quarter.

The Valley Forge offense would not give up, as they rebounded in the fourth quarter with another touchdown with 10:30 left in the game; making the score Lackawanna 41-Valley Forge-21. However, that would be as close as VFMC would get, as Falcons scored twice more; the first on a 24 yard interception return by Jave Brown with 6:49 left; and, a 20 yard rush by Kani Kane with 6:31 left in the game. With Hill converting both PAT's, the Falcons finished the contest with a 55-21 win.

The highlights of the game were Pindell's four touchdown passes of 17, 35, 47, and 55 yards: Shaw's two touchdown runs of 3 yards each; and, Hills 7 successful PAT's in 8 attempts.

Lackawanna's next game is Saturday, September 17, when it host Hudson Valley Community College. Saturday's game is scheduled for 7: 00 PM kick off. It will be the first of two night contests played by the Falcons during the 2016 season: the other being on October 8 against ASA College.
