For the second straight year the Nassau Community College / Lackawanna College football game came to an end on the final play of the contest. Last year a blocked extra point attempt after Lackawanna scored on the final play of the game allowed Nassau to claim the win. This year, the Falcons' Dennis Archibald broke up a Nassau pass in the end zone, as time ran out, to clinch Lackawanna's 28-23 win over Nassau. With the Win the Falcons not only upset the #2 team in the NJCAA National Football rankings but also broke up Nassau's 13 game undefeated streak.
Lackawanna trailed at half time by a 17-7 score. However they dominated the second half scoring 21 points to Nassau's 6.
Key performers in Lackawanna's win were Andrew Ford who completed 15 passes in 27 attempts for 157 yards and three touchdowns; Terry Norris, who netted 124 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and an additional TD on a five yard reception; and, Mallory Claybourne with 3 receptions for 42 yards. Also notable was Javon Curry's three receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Kapri Doucet and Shane Schuback starred. Doucet recorded 9 solo and 2 assisted tackles. He had a sack and three tackles for losses along with a force fumble and fumble recovery. Schuback had 9 solo tackles which included a sack and 2 TFLs. Dennis Archibald was credited with a solo tackle but was instrumental in slowing down the Nassau passing attack with 3 pass breakups.
The Falcons remain at home next weekend when they host Erie Community College. The Erie game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm kickoff next Saturday afternoon.
