Former Falcon on Watch List for Payton Award

Student Union – According to Sportsnetwork.com, former Falcon, Lorenzo Taliaferro, has been placed on the Payton Award Watch List based on his outstanding season as a running back for Coastal Carolina. The Walter Payton Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding offensive player in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) of college football as chosen by a nationwide panel of media and college sports information directors.

A 2012 graduate of Lackawanna College, Taliaferro carried the ball 95 times for 527 yards and 4 touchdowns; had 21 receptions for 261 yards and 5 TDs; and, returned 21 kicks for 579 yards and a score while playing for the Falcons. This season at Coastal Carolina Taliaferro ranks first in the FCS Schools in scoring with15.4 points per game, second in rushing touchdowns with 17, fourth in rushing yards per game at 140.9, fifth in total rushing yards with 986, 10th in all-purpose yards per game, averaging 151.7 and 18th in points responsible for (108), he is the only non-quarterback among the top 30 in the latter category.
