Lackawanna Baseball Concludes Season with 8-7 Loss to Kellogg CC in NJCAA DII World Series

(Enid, OK) – In what may have been the latest game in Lackawanna Baseball's recent memory, the Falcons lost their 1st round consolation game in the 2019 NJCAA DII World Series at 2:25am locally. Kellogg Community College won the game in extra innings 8-7. The Falcons finished their season with a 32-17 (11-3) record.

Kellogg CC showed patience against Lackawanna's Grant Powell to kick off the scoring in the bottom of the 1st. Kellog's A. Crump hit a line drive RBI single to left field to score a runner from 2nd. Powell then loaded the bases and walked a runner home to give Kellog an early 2-0 advantage. Lackawanna managed to grab a lucky break in the top of the 3rd as DJ Barry-Staszak hit a hard grounder to left field and a wild throw helped Owen Kiess advance to 3rd. The Falcons scored their first run of the game on a wild pitch which advanced Kiess home. Kellogg led 2-1.

Thylar Summarell blasted a 3-run homerun in the top of the 5th. A breaking ball that hung over the center of the plate helped propel the Falcons to a 4-2 lead. Kellog took the lead back in the bottom of the 5th on a few singles to make the score 5-4. Both teams trading scoring proved to be the story of the game. This time the Falcons scored on a DJ Barry-Staszak single to the short stop to tie the game 5-5. Kellog CC bounced back yet again in the bottom of the 7th. A sac-fly to right and a bunt for a single gave Kellogg a 7-5 edge. Not to be counted out, Thylar Summarell hit his 2nd homerun of the game in the top of the 9th. The lefty struck a shot to left field to tie the game 7-7. The homer came at 2:41am EST (1:41am locally in Enid, Oklahoma). Kellog hit a single in the bottom of the 10th which turned into a stolen base and a throwing error that advanced the runner to 3rd. From there, Kellog CC hit a sac-fly to end it in the 10th, winning the game 8-7.
