Lackawanna and Frederick CC Split First Two Games of the Northeast Championship

(Frederick, MD) – The Lackawanna Falcons and Frederick CC split the first day of the NJCAA Northeast Championship. Lackawanna came away with a 7-0 victory in game one and Frederick CC got their revenge in game two as they won 19-5. The final game of the series will be played tomorrow (May 18th) at 12:00pm. The winner of the game will head to Enid, Oklahoma to compete in the NJCAA World Series.

Game 1 saw the Falcons pitching dominate the matchup. Nathan McLain started for Lackawanna and threw 9 strikeouts over 6 innings. McLain only gave up 1 hit. From there Dominic Verrastro tossed 1 scoreless inning and Leon Finney completed 2 scoreless innings to shut out Frederick CC. Finney allowed 1 hit and struck out 2 batters. Ryan Cole provided more than half of the offense for the Falcons, he went 3-4 with 4 RBI's. Lackawanna won 7-0 after holding Frederick CC to just 3 hits.

Lackawanna started game 2 with all the momentum. The jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, going up 4-1. Thylar Summarell knocked home 2 of those first 4 runs. Frederick did not let game 2 get out of hand early, they tied the game up which included a 2-run single. The score was 4-4 after 2 innings. Frederick would score often and easily for the rest of the game and homered 4 times. Frederick won 19-5.

Lackawanna College and Frederick Community College will square off one more time on May 18th at 12:00pm. Game 3 of the NJCAA Northeast Championship will be held in Frederick, Maryland and the winner will head to the NJCAA World Series.
