Georgetown, DE – The Lackawanna College baseball team saw their season come to a close in the championship round of the Region XIX Division II Baseball Tournament. In today's game, the Falcons lost to Mercer County Community College by 13-4 score. The defeat eliminated Lackawanna in the double elimination tournament and gave Mercer the 2017 title.
In today's game, the Falcons had a 3-1 lead through the top of the sixth inning. However in the bottom of that inning the Vikings scored six to take a lead that they would not relinquish. Mercer added four insurance runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth, while Lackawanna scored their only other run in the top of the eighth.
Ledwin Nunez suffered the loss, although performing creditably over the five innings he worked. Nunez gave up five runs on four hits while striking out five. Only three of the five runs he relinquished were earned. Unfortunately for Lackawanna its bull pen was unable to keep the Falcons in the ball game, as it gave up eight runs on nine hits of the next three innings.
The Lackawanna hitters were limited to seven hits, five of which were contributed by Giovanni Torres and Chris Skermo. Torres singled and doubled in four at bats and scored once. Skermo singled twice and doubled in four visits to the plate and drove in a run. The Falcons other two hits were a single by D'Quan Matthews and a double by Jahmoi Percivel.
