Scranton, PA – Monday afternoon, Lackawanna's D'Quan Matthews and Jahmoi Percival combined for two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 9-8 win over Wilkes. After two base on balls, Mathews drove in the tying run with a single, before scoring the winning run on Percival's walk of single.
Lackawanna took a 7-5 lead after eight innings, before Wilkes scored three runs off PJ Mandarano in the ninth to give the Colonel's a 8-7 lead and set up Matthew's and Percival's heroics.
Winning pitcher for the Falcons was Quinton Heckard, who in relief of Mandarano, finished the last third of inning.
Besides Matthews and Percival, the other Lackawanna batters who made contributions to today's victory, were Connor Perry, who had a single and homer in three at bats with three runs scored and an RBI; Giovanni Torres, who singled twice in five plate appearances, with a run driven in; Vincent Napolitano, who was credited with a run scored and two RBIs without a base hit; and, Chris Skermo, who singled once in four visits to the plate, scored twice and drove in a run.
Lackawanna returns to conference play tomorrow, when they travel to Branchburg Township, New Jersey, to play Raritan Valley Community College in a Region XIX, Division II doubleheader. Tomorrow's twin bill is scheduled for 2:00 PM start.
