Randolph, NJ – Despite strong pitching performances, the Lackawanna College baseball team fell twice to County College of Morris in their Region XIX Division II opener. The Falcons were shutout 1-0 in the opener and again by a 5-0 score in the nightcap.
In the opener, Morris scored in the bottom of first on a single and a double to take a one run lead. It was the only run that Lackawanna starter, Logan Zavada, relinquished over six innings of work. Regrettably, that was the only run that CCM would need, as the Falcons were shutout on three hits. The loss was Zavada's first of the season, after recording five consecutive wins. He would only surrender five hits in the defeat.
In the nightcap, the Titans scored three in the second inning to drive Lackawanna starter, Jarred Solomon from the mound. Again it was all they would need, as the Falcons were once more held scoreless on three hits.
Solomon suffered the loss, his second of the season. Elijah Baez, pitching in relief of Solomon, held CCM scoreless over three and a third innings, before giving up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Weather permitting, Lackawanna is again scheduled to take the field tomorrow against a conference opponent. The Falcons will travel to Wayne, Pennsylvania, to play Valley Forge Military College in a 2:00 PM Region XIX Division II doubleheader.
