Yaphank, NY – Saturday afternoon, the Lackawanna College baseball team swept a doubleheader against Suffolk County Community College at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York. The Falcons took the opener 6-1 and then outscored Suffolk 6-2 in game two.
In game one, the Falcons used six walks, a single and a double in the fourth inning to score six runs. Those runs were more than starting pitcher, Logan Zavada, needed. Zavada pitched a complete game relinquishing a solo run on one hit, while striking out six. Lackawanna was held to four hits, singles by Connor Perry, Zach Lopatka and Kyle Rogers, and a double by D'Quan Mathews. The win was Zavada's fifth this season.
In game two, the Lackawanna batters contributed ten hits and six runs to give Jared Solomon the run support he needed to claim his second victory of the year. Solomon pitched six innings, giving up three runs on three hits. He struck out eight. Jahmoi Percival was credited with a save by shutting out Suffolk in the seventh. Three of Lackawanna's ten hits were home runs, a three run dinger by Michael Villa in the second inning and back to back homers by Kyle Rogers and Luis Rodriguez in the sixth. D'Quan Matthews contributed three singles, while Dustin Wilcox added a double.
Lackawanna returns to the diamond tomorrow when they travel to Rochester, New York to take on Monroe Community College in a doubleheader. Game time is for the opener is scheduled for 1:00 PM
