Myrtle Beach, SC: The Lackawanna College baseball team concluded their spring trip to the Cal Ripken Experience with a 6-2 win over Massasoit Community and 16-6 victory over Henry Ford Community College. With the double wins, Lackawanna completed their Cal Ripken schedule with a 7-3 win/loss record and improved their record to 12-4.
Game one was a true pitcher's battle. Falcons' starter Logan Zavada yielded two hits and one run over six innings while his relief pitcher, Jean Carlos Bonilla, only relinquished one additional hit and run in the one inning that he worked. Zavada also struck out ten. As for Massasoit, they held Lackawanna to only two hits over seven innings but did issue 11 walks. However the Falcons made efficient use of their hits as they scored six runs in the third inning on a solo homer by Vincent Napolitano and a bases loaded double by Giovanni Torres; and saw two additional runs score on a Massasoit error. Zavada was credited with the win.
In Game two, Lackawanna's bats came alive as they scored sixteen runs on fourteen hits. Mike Villa and Vincent Napolitano contributed six of those hits. Villa drove in a run on three singles and a double in five at bats, while Napolitano drove in five with two home runs in four visits to the plate. Issaiah Gregory, Sean Putnam and Max Guadalope each contributed two singles, while Giovanni Torres had his second RBI double of the day. Both Lackawanna pitchers pitched effectively in their seven combined innings of work. Alex Varaksa threw four innings, giving up 6 runs, three of which were unearned, on six hits while striking out three. In relief, Jared Solomon hurled three scoreless innings, surrendering only a sole hit and striking out three.
