Lackawanna Sweeps both games on Opening Day of Spring Trip

Sunday, the Lackawanna College started their trip to the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with a two game sweep of Danville Area Community College and College of Lake County. The Falcons beat Danville Area 3-1 in their 3:00 PM game before outscoring Lake County 2-1 in extra innings in the 6:00 PM game.

In the day's opening game, Logan Zavada got win, pitching five innings while striking out nine, yielding six hits and an earned run.Elijah Baez was credited with a two inning save by shutting out Danville on no hits. Lackawanna's star at the plate was Zach Lopatka, who went had a double and a three run home run in his four at bats.

In the Falcons' night game, Lackawanna won the contest 2-1 in 8 innings on a walk off single by Vincent Napoltiano. Napolitano scored Michael Villa, who scored both of the Falcons' runs in this pitcher's battle. Alex Varaksa started for Lackawanna, hurling five shutout innings on three hits while striking out six. Carlos Benoit relieved for Varaksa pitching a third of an inning.  Elijah Baez got win by throwing the last two and two thirds innings relinquishing a solo unearned run.

Tomorrow, Lackawanna plays Olney Central College in a 1:00 PM contest and Middlesex County Community College in another 6:00 PM night game. All games are played at Ripken Experience located in Myrtle Beach.
