Dobson, NC – Sunday afternoon, the Lackawanna College baseball team concluded their opening weekend with a twin-bill sweep of Surry Community College, giving them a win-loss record of 4-0 for their trip to North Carolina. Today they beat Surry by scores of 2-1 in the opener and 14-2 in the night cap.
In game one, Alex Varaksa was credited the win after hurling 5 scoreless innings, while striking out 6 and relinquishing only 3 hits. Zach Lopatka got a save after pitching 2 innings in relief during which he gave up a solo run. At the plate Connor Perry continued his hot hitting from the day before, going 2-3 with a double. Both of Lackawanna's runs were driven in by Dustin Wilcox and Jahmoi Percival, each contributing a RBI.
In game two, Jean Carlos Bonilla got the win, after throwing 3 innings, giving a solo earned run on one hit, while striking out 2. Again it was Perry who excelled at the plate. In this contest he had a perfect 4-4 day with 2 doubles and 2 Runs Batted in. Lopatka proved to be the Falcons' power hitter, slugging his second home run of the season, a 3 run smash. Sophomore, Isaiah Gregory also contributed to the teams' efforts with a single in two at bats and a RBI.
Lackawanna take the field again next Saturday when they travel to Flemington, New Jersey to play a double header against Rockland Community College at Diamond Nation. Saturday's twin-bill is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
