Georgetown, DE – Sunday morning, the Lackawanna College Baseball team saw their season come to an end in the ninth inning of a Region XIX Division II elimination game. In that inning the County College of Morris pushed the tying and winning runs across the plate on a one out walk off single, to give the Titans a 5-4 win over the Falcons. With the loss Lackawanna finished the season with an overall win/loss record of 26-18.
At one time in the game, the Falcons held a 4-1 lead and the momentum. However, Lackawanna lost both after heavy rain suspended play with one out in the top of the sixth. Prior to the suspension, the Falcons scored in the second on a Carlos Gomez RBI single; in the third on a Zach Lopatka sacrifice fly; in the fifth on a Isaac Samuel RBI single; and in the sixth on Gomez's second RBI single of the game. The Titans' scored only one run before the suspension, a solo run in the bottom of the second.
After the suspension, the nature of the contest changed as Morris scored two runs in the seventh to cut the Falcon lead to 4-3; and two more in the ninth to claim the win.
D'Quan Matthews suffered the loss. Matthews entered the game in the eighth and held Morris scoreless, but gave up a single and walk in the ninth, before he was relieved, both of whom scored. Starting pitcher, Daniel Behlke, went the first sixth innings, relinquishing one run on three hits. He struck out one and walked one. Behlke was relieved by Alex Varaksa, who pitched two innings and gave up two runs on three hits, while striking out three without a walk.
Lackawanna's top hitters where Connor Perry who doubled three times in four at bats and scored twice and Gomez, who singled twice, drove in a two runs and scored in three official plate appearances.
