Pemberton, NJ – Wednesday afternoon, the Lackawanna College baseball team split its Region XIX Division II doubleheader with Rowan College at Burlington County. The Falcons took the opener, beating RCBC by a 7-3 score. In the night cap, Lackawanna was shutout 2-0.
In game one, Zach Lopatka earned the win with a five inning performance holding Burlington to two runs. He struck out seven. Alex Varaksa completed the game with two innings of relief yielding only one run. The Falcons top hitters were D'Quan Matthews with a single, double, two RBIs and two stolen bases in four at bats; and Ethan Bowen, who had a base hit in four at bats along with two runs batted in.
In game two, Max Frederick suffered the loss. He gave up both of RCBC's runs in his five innings of work. Frederick struck out eight. Falcon hitters were held to two hits, singles by Dustin Wilcox and Lopatka.
With the split Lackawanna now has a 3-3 win/loss record in conference and holds third place in the standings. The Falcons have four conference double headers left in the season, three of which are at home. The next Region twin-bill is Saturday, when Lackawanna hosts Mercer County Community College. Game one is scheduled to start at 12:00 PM.
