Bayside, NY – For the second consecutive day, the Lackawanna College baseball team traveled to the New York Metro area to play a road twin-bill. Today turned out to be much more successful, as the Falcons swept Queensborough Community College by scores of 11-0 in the opener and 5-2 in the nightcap.
In game one, Alex Varaska claimed the win by hurling a complete seven inning shutout, surrendering only two hits and striking out eight. The win was Varaska's first of the year and balanced his season win/loss record at 1-1. Leading batters for Lackawanna were Ethan Bowen and Shane Rivenburgh. Bowen had three base hits in five plate appearances, while Rivenburgh went two for four with a two run home run.
In the second game, Zach Lopatka was credited with the win. He went five and a third innings, striking out seven and relinquishing a single earned run. At the plate, Shane Rivenburgh again went two for four with a solo home run and three RBIs. Also having a notable hitting performance was D'Quan Matthews, who had a single and double in four plate appearances.
Lackawanna opens up its home schedule with a Saturday double header versus Borough of Manhattan Community College. Game time for the first contest is 1:00 PM.
