Vineland, NJ – The Lackawanna College baseball team fell to Cumberland County College in both games of its opening doubleheader. Dropping the opener by an 8-7 score and losing in the nightcap 10-1.
The Falcons top hitters in the opener were Dquan Matthews with a three run home run and Zach Lopatka, who went had two singles in four at bats and scored twice. Losing pitcher was Max Frederick. He hurled four innings giving up five runs, three of which were earned.
In game two, the Lackawanna nine's top offensive players were Matthews with single in two at bats, a base on balls and stolen base; and Sterling Smith, who went 1-1 with a single and two base on balls. Lopatka took the loss, giving up four runs on six hits in five innings of work.
Lackawanna plays again next Thursday at Wilkes University, versus the University's Junior Varsity team. Game time is 3:00 PM.
