Falcons Split with Frederick in Northeast District Playoff

Frederick MD - A 3 run rally in the ninth inning of the first game of today's NJCAA Northeast District playoffs, allowed the Lackawanna College baseball team to claim a 4-3 victory over Frederick Community College. The Falcons lost the second game of the championship doubleheader by a 6-3 score to Frederick to set up a winner take all title game tomorrow at 12 noon.

The Falcons took the opener after battling back from an early 3-0 deficit. Frederick scored first in the contest when they put all three runs of the game on the board in the bottom of fourth. Lackawanna bounced back in the seventh, when Arbely  Soto singled with one out, moved to third on Eric Grabowski's  base hit and scored on a fielder's choice. In the ninth, Lackawanna loaded the bases with singles by Eric Grabowski and Rasheed Noble and a Kenny Guichardo hit by pitch. With two outs, Bernard Brito took advantage the opportunity, when he drove in all three runs with a triple.

Winning pitcher for Lackawanna was Anthony Hunter, who hurled eight and a third innings yielding three on four hits. Hunter struck out  thirteen. Kraigen Rasalla got the save in relief,  throwing two thirds of an inning, without relinquishing a run or hit.

Besides Brito's triple, three Falcons had multi hit days. Sjagbar Martis, Grabowski and Soto, all had two for four days.

In game two, Frederick scored six in the third inning to take a lead that the Lackawanna could not rebound from, although they did score a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Losing pitcher was Tony Hernandez, who gave up all Frederick runs.

Lackawanna was held to five hits in the nightcap; Grabowski doubled, while Michael Villa, Francisco Zayas, Martin and Brito all singled.

Tomorrow's winner will proceed to the NJCAA DII World Series.
