Georgetown, DE - For the third time in the 2015 Region XIX DII Baseball Tournament, the Lackawanna College baseball team rebound from an early deficit to claim victory. Today it was against County College of Morris. Morris scored the first three runs of the game in the initial three and one half innings, only to see the Falcons rebound with seven unanswered runs to claim a 7-3 win. The victory gave Lackawanna the 2015 Region XIX DII title.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Falcons started to chip into the Morris lead when Rasheed Noble led off the frame with a single and advanced to third on a wild pitch and fielder's choice. He then scored on a Sjahbar Martis sacrifice fly.
In the sixth, the Falcons tied the score when Jason Barton reached base on a hit by pitch move to second on a wild pitch, third on a sacrifice bunt and then score on an Morris error.
In the seventh, the Lackawanna nine finally took the lead when Joe Spitaleri tripled and scored on a Arbely Soto single. Soto scored later in the inning when he advanced to third on Grabowski's single and to home on Noble's sacrifice fly.
Lackawanna added a two run cushion to their lead in the eighth, when both Michael Villa and Martis walked and àdvanced to second and third respectively on Kenny Guichardo's sacrifice bunt. Villa then scored on Bernard Brito's sacrifice fly and Martis on Parrilla's single.
Tony Hernandez was the starting pitcher and hurled 6 innings without a decision. He yielded all 3 of Morris's runs on 7 hits; only two of those runs were earned. Hernandez struck out 7. Anthony Hernandez, Tony's brother, relieved him in the seventh and pitched two innings of one hit shutout ball. He also struck out 2. Trevor Bridgen finished the game by striking out three of the four batters he faced in the ninth. Anthony Hernandez received the win.
Excelling offensively for the Falcons where Spitaleri with a single, triple, and run scored in two official at bats; Soto, who singled twice in five at bats, along with a run scored and RBI; and Grabowski, who went 2 for 3 with a run batted in.
With the win, Lackawanna Advances to the Northeast District playoffs against a yet to be determined opponent from Region 20 at that opponent's home field.
