Batavia NY, - Wednesday afternoon, the Lackawanna College baseball team beat Genesee Community College in a non-conference doubleheader by identical scores of 7-3.
The Opening game was a pitcher's battle, which came to an end in the eleventh inning after Lackawanna scored four in the top of the frame,
Leading hitters for the Falcons were Eric Grabowski and Francisco Zayas. Grabowski singled and doubled in four official at bats. The single came in the top of the eleventh and ignited the rally that allowed the Falcons to claim the victory. His one out single came with one out in that inning and he scored when the very next batter Rasheed Noble doubled him home. Zayas singled and homered in five plate appearance. Both hits were crucial to the win. In the Fifth Zayas slammed a three run homer which eventually caused the contest to go into extra innings. In the eleventh he added two more RBIs when he singled in the final two runs of that inning.
The Falcon's starting pitcher Trevor Bridgen threw four and two-thirds innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out three. Only two of the runs yielded by Bridgen were earned. Kraigen Rasalla entered the game with two outs in the fifth and hurled the final six and one third innings. He shut out the Cougars in those final innings on four hits while striking out five. Rasalla was credited with the win, his fifth of the season.
In the second game the Falcons exploded for six runs in the top of the second to take a lead that they would not relinquish.
Lackawanna's top offensive performers where Grabowski, who singled an homered in four at bats, his homer coming in the second; Arbely Soto who tripled and scored in the second; and, Nick Hogan, who slammed a solo homer in the sixth.
Anthony Hernandez started earned the win. He threw five and two-thirds innings yielding three runs, two of which were earned, on two hits. He struck out four. Warren Drake pitched the final inning and a third without yielding a run He relinquished three hits and struck out one.
