West Windsor, NJ – In their final Region XIX Division II doubleheader of the 2015 campaign, the Lackawanna College baseball team dropped both games to Mercer County Community College. Lackawanna fell 9-2 in the opener and then lost in the night-cap 2-1 in ten innings.
With the two losses, the Falcons' conference win/loss record fell to 11-3 and a second place seed in the Region XIX Division II Baseball Tournament. That tourney will played May 8 through 10 at Del Tech Owens in Georgetown, Delaware. Lackawanna's opponent will be Burlington County College.
In the opener, the Falcons' had five base-hits, all singles. Those hits were recorded by Joe Spitaleri, Arbely Soto, Eric Grabowski, Bernard Brito and Francisco Zayas. Both Brito and Spitaleri had Lackawanna's RBIs.
Phil Stokes took the loss. He pitched one and two-thirds innings, yielding five runs on two hits, while striking out two. Trevor Bridgen came in relief and threw four and one-third innings, giving up four runs on five hits He struck out five.
In the night- cap, Mercer scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth to a 2-1 pitching battle.
The Lackawanna offense was limited to five hits, two of which were recorded by Grabowski. In five at bats, he singled and doubled. The others reaching base safely were Rasheed Noble, Jason Barton and Soto. Noble scored the Falcons' only run
Tony Hernandez started and threw five and two-thirds innings, he relinquished a solo unearned run on one hit, while striking out one. . Kraigen Rasalla took the mound in relief and suffered the loss. He hurled three and one-third winnings, relinquishing one run on three hits.
