Falcons Split with ASA

Scranton, PA – In a non-conference doubleheader, the Lackawanna College baseball team used four home runs to take the first game 11-0, only to lose 12-11 in the night cap on a bases loaded double play.

In the opener, Joe Spitarelli led off the opening game of the twin bill with a solo homer to set the offensive tone for a contest where the Falcons hit three more homers. Bernard Brito hit the first of those homers in the fourth, a three run slam. In that same inning, the very next hitter, Jason Barton also went deep. Finally Sjaghbar Martis went long with a two shot in the fifth.

Eric Grabowski and Arbely Soto also contributed to the offensive effort. Grabowski went three for three with two singles, a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Soto had a single, double, run driven in and three runs scored.

Winning pitcher was Anthony Hernandez, his second victory of the season, when he hurled five shutout innings on four hits. Hernandez struck out two.

The second game was a back and forth offensive battle, which started in the first inning when ASA scored two runs. Lackawanna took the lead in the third when the Falcons scored four times. ASA tied the score in the fourth when they scored twice. Lackawanna retook the lead with four in the bottom of the inning only to see ASA respond with four in the fifth inning and sixth inning to give them a 12-8 lead. The Falcons attempted a comeback when they scored one in the sixth and two more in the seventh when their rally came to an end when Brito grounded into a double play with bases loaded.

Rasheed Noble contributed the Falcons best offensive performance. He went four for four with three singles, a double, two runs scored and four runs driven in. Martis also had a multi-hit contest going two for three with a single, double and an RBI. Brito, Grabowski and Soto, all contributed a double, while Grabowski also drove in three runs.

Zabdiel Parrilla suffered the loss.
