Myrtle Beach, SC – Thursday, the Lackawanna College Baseball team rebounded from their first loss of the spring trip to sweep a twin-bill against Elgin Community College by scores of 2-1 and 8-3.
In the first game, Lackawanna relied upon the pitching performance of Anthony Hunter to claim the the win. Hunter pitched a complete game relinquishing a sole run on three hits, while recording 8 strikes outs.
The Falcons took the lead in the top of the fourth when Sjaghbar Martis led off the inning with a single and then scored two batters later when he scored on Nick Hogan's double. Elgin tied the score in the bottom of the inning. The score remained knotted into the seventh when Michael Villa doubled with two outs and Eric Grabowski, batting next, singled in what proved to be the winning run.
Martis led the Falcons in hitting with a two for three game. Besides his single in the fourth, he also doubled in the sixth.
In the second contest, Elgin took a 3-0 lead through the top of the third inning. Lackawanna then rebounded to score one in the bottom of the third when Grabowski walked and scored on Arbely Soto's RBI single; three in the bottom of the third when Domenic Oliveri and Ian Conwell scored on Grabowski's double, who also scored on a fielder's choice; and, four more in the sixth.
In the victory, three Falcons had multi-hit games. Eric Grabowski went two for three with a single, double, three runs scored and two RBIs; Martis was three for four with two singles, a double a run scored and two runs batted in; and Soto had two singles in four at bats with two RBIs and a run scored.
The win was credited to Tony Hernandez, who threw five and a third innings relinquishing three runs on five hits while striking out two. Kraigen Rasalla finished the contest in relief, holding Elgin scoreless on one hit to earn a save, Rasalla's third of the season.
