Lackawanna Nine Open Season with Split

Martinsville VA – The Lackawanna College Baseball team opened their 2015 season with a doubleheader split at Patrick Henry Community College. The Falcons fell to Patrick Henry in the opener by an 8-1 score and rebounded in the nightcap to claim a 6-3 victory.

In the opener, Lackawanna was held to a lone hit, a Rasheed Noble single; and, scored their only run when Nick Hughes scored on an Arbely Soto RBI. Starting pitcher, Anthony Hunter took the loss.

In the nightcap, the Falcons had 3 hitters with multi-hit games. Robert Dodd had 3 singles and a run batted in; while Joseph Spitaleri and Kenneth Guichardo had two one base hits. Lazaro Duvergel had Lackawanna's only extra base hit, a double. Trevor Bridgen was credited with the win after going 5 innings, giving up 2 runs and striking out 3.

The third game of the scheduled three game series against Patrick Henry has already been cancelled because of predicted inclement weather. The Falcons will therefore next return to the field next Saturday and Sunday in a three-game series against Catawba Valley Community College. All games will be played on Catawba Valley's home-field in Hickory North Carolina. Starting time for Saturday's twin-bill starts at 12:00 PM.
