Lackawanna Athletes recognized for Academic Excellence

Monday, the National Junior College Athletic Association announced the recipients of its Academic Student-Athlete Awards for the 2015-2016 academic year. Included in the list of students receiving those awards were twelve (12) Lackawanna College athletes.

The award is divided into three classifications; Pinnacle for student/athletes who have achieved a perfect 4.00 average, Superior for those with a Grade Point Average between 3.80 and 3.99; and, Exemplary for athletes with GPAs between 3.60 and 3.79.

A breakdown of the Falcon athletes receiving this recognition were:

Pinnacle AwardAlexander Varaska, Baseball;

Superior AwardBarbara Verrastro, Bethany Michavicz and Kelly Snyder, Women's Softball;

Exemplary AwardPasquale (PJ) Mandarano  and Zachary Lopatka, Baseball; Andrew Weathers, Men's Basketball; Victoria Henning, Tennis; and, Donald Myers, Eli Thomas, Lamik Bumbrey and Quentin Parham, Football.

In Region XIX, the number of Lackawanna College recipients ranked first amongst the division II schools with which it competes athletically during the year. Of all thirty two institutions in the Region it ranked fifth and of the fifteen Pennsylvania schools in the Region it ranked second.
